A Special Visit

It all began with the Public Art Event/ December 2012 (Post on Blog). Students created ceramic ornaments and went on a field trip to decorate trees at the Chase Building and City Hall. Mayor O’Leary came to our school to thank the students and present them with certificates. He spoke with the students about being kind to the elderly and helping keep our community clean by picking up trash. A couple of weeks passed and Mrs. Beaton mentioned to me that Matthew had been picking up trash after Mayor O’Leary’s visit. When I went to pick up the ornaments, by chance, I spoke with Mayor O’Leary and told him how the students were thrilled by his visit and that one student had been picking up trash. Mayor O’Leary said that he would like to present Matthew with a special citation…

CAEA HARTFORD ART SLAM 2013

The Capitol

Two students, Jack and Sierra, both in second grade had artwork displayed at this event at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford during February. This year the exhibit was larger and located in a long hallway (very visible!)

Public Art Event / December 2012

First and second grade students made ceramic ornaments and painted them. These ornaments were used to decorate three evergreen trees. Two of the trees were in City Hall (one in the lobby and the other in the Mayor’s Office) and the Chase Building Lobby.  The tree in the Chase Building was the “Mosaic Tree”. Ornaments were created in honor of “Cool Waters” the downtown mosaic. The leading artists and designers of the mosaic were Bruce and Joanne Hunter of The Art Spot.

The tree in the lobby of City Hall was the “Winter Tree” with  snowflakes. The tree in the Mayor’s Office was the “Patriotic Tree” with red, white, and blue stars.

Twenty-four students went on a field trip to decorate     the trees. Students received cocoa and cookies.  They   also were given a tour.  The Mayor came to our school to thank students and presented them with achievement certificates.Students: Sofia, Alexis, Ivana, Sierra, Tanaisha, Erica, Matthew, Jordan, Jerry, Sydney, Victormanuel, Eli, Mirena, Joseph, Vasile, Abigail, Naysa, Ayla, Marie, Mia, Zeb, Kiomi, Madison, and Daniel.
